Bees & Wasps Group - Bees and wasps have three body regions. They have four wings, although it usually looks like just two because the hind wings are very small. Can be hairy or smooth. All have stings but not all bees and wasps sting.
Cockroach Group - Cockroaches have leathery wing coverings, not quite as hard as beetles. They also have long slender antenna. They are usually dark colored but may have white or black markings.
Beetle Group - Beetles have hardened wing covers over their backs giving them a "hard shell" appearance. Size ranges from 1/8 inch (3 mm) to 1-1/2 inch (40 mm).
Fly Group - Flies have 3 body regions, but only two wings. Pale, dark, or metallic colored.
Moth Group - Moths have 3 body regions and 4 wings that are covered with dusty scales.
Spiders Group - Spiders have eight legs and 6-8 eyes. Spiders have two body regions in contrast to insects which have three.
Bed Bugs are 1/4 to 1/2 inch (5 to 10 mm) long and reddish brown in color.
Booklice are very small (less then 1/4 inch or 6 mm), pale colored, and usually associated with stored food or tree bark.
Boxelder bugs are about 1/2 inch or 1 cm long and are black with RED markings.
Centipedes have many body regions, each with one pair of legs.
Earwigs have a distinctive set of pincers on their tail end.
Fleas are dark colored and jump. They are small in length (2 mm or 1/6 inch) and very narrow when viewed from the front.
Millipedes are similar to centipedes above but have two pairs of legs on each segment.
Mosquitos are small flies that are dark colored and have long mouthparts.
Silverfish are silver to white in color, wingless, and are covered with dust like scales.
Springtails are usually pale colored, very small (2 mm or 1/8 inch) and JUMP when disturbed.
Wheel Bugs have a distinctive wheel or cog like structure on their back that is best viewed from the side.
